How VCI Works - How to Use VCI?
Corrosion starts when an electrolyte (water, oxygen, moisture) is present on the metal surface. When this happens, electrons flow through the electrolyte from the high-energy regions of the metal to the low-energy areas in a cycle.
The corrosion process results in the formation of oxidation on the metal surface. With Universal Volatile Anti-Corrosion Technology (VCI), Universal Industrial Packaging prevents or delays the electro-chemical mechanism that triggers oxidation, i.e. current flow from anode to cathode, by passivating the surface.
The electric current tries to flow from the anode through the electrolyte to the cathode, the VCI molecules are invisible to protect the metal against attack, only a few molecules or even a molecule thick forms a thin film layer on the metal surface. Universal Industrial Packaging, VCI products prevent corrosion on the metal surface for many years.
