What is VCI and VCI Packaging?

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors

VCI (V.C.I. Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) is an acronym for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor. VCI chemicals prevent the formation of rust and corrosion with sufficient vapor pressure by releasing molecules into the air.

If we want to examine the means of temporary protection, this method has proven to be the best method, with close to a hundred years of application. In the years when packaging for military purposes became important in Europe, VCI products came to the fore with great experience and research.

VCI method can be applied in the form of paper, cardboard, film, liquid, powder (powder). VCI products continuously emit a small amount of shielding gas where it is used and ensures that the air in the package is completely filled with anti-rust particles. Protection begins 15 minutes after the packaging is closed.

The surface of the metals packaged with VCI is covered with a rust-proof substance.

VCI packages are effective not only in direct contact with metal, but also from a distance. Therefore, it is also suitable for perforated, ducted, machined bodies and uneven surfaces.

By using VCI packages, the harmful effects of oxygen, vapor, sea water, wood acids, human sweat, industrial gases and other factors accumulating on the metal surface can be eliminated, i.e. rust formation is prevented.

VCI packages are ideal for export packaging, stocking, spare parts packaging as well as for parts that need to be free from oil, dirt and machine oil (assembly parts).

Metal parts, which we do not want to rust, should first be free from residues (sawdust, dust, etc.), fingerprints, dirt and rust, if any. In other words, all basic rules of pre-cleaning should be followed.
